The Process SelfCheckTM (PSC) is an online application designed to give users an immediate appraisal of the current state of IT governance in their organization. The PSC is based on the COBIT 4.1 QuickStart. The QuickStart is a form of the COBIT 4.1 framework designed for smaller organizations. It covers essentially the same fundamental practices as the full framework, but distills the content down to 59 control objectives covering 32 processes.

Our PSC will provide an accurate assessment of your organization's IT governance structure by using approximately 70 metrics to addresses the 32 COBIT QuickStart processes. An evaluation version of the PSC that fully covers the 10 processes of the Plan and Organize domain is available online, free of charge. This service will start the process for any organization interested in understanding how they can increase the value they receive from their IT investment.

The output of the PSC is completely COBIT Capability Maturity Model (CMM) based. The COBIT CMM provides an easily understood method for rating capabilities. CMM levels are designed as profiles of IT processes that an organization can recognize as representing their current and/or future states. They are not designed for use as a threshold model, and there is no intention to measure levels precisely or try to certify that a level has exactly been met. The intention is to facilitate assessments that raise awareness, capture broad consensus and motivate improvement. The six maturity levels are arranged on a scale of 0 to 5 and can be generically understood to as:

0 - Non-existent
1 - Initial/Ad Hoc
2 - Repeatable but Intuitive
3 - Defined Process
4 - Managed and Measurable
5 - Optimized

Our online PSC assigns a score for each process based on the users responses to a series of questions. The collective scoring for each COBIT domain is then graphed and presented along with the specific score for each process. As an additional measure to help lend a degree of context and facilitate a level of self-checking, we also provide a standard statement describing the COBIT CMM as scored for each process.

The PSC is at the foundation level of our Technology Improvement Program (TIP). The PSC renders the best results possible in a quick, online assessment requiring little investment of time on behalf of the user. It is, however, just a starting point. K12TW builds upon this start with both our Process QuickCheckTM (PQC) and Process Advanced Review (PAR). These more detailed assessments are both administered onsite and rely upon a face-to-face interview process to ensure results. More information regarding these services is available elsewhere on this website.

The Process SelfCheckTM is configured for self-registration. The evaluation version, which covers all 10 Plan and Organize processes, is currently available for use online. Access is free of charge, and can be upgraded to full access of all 32 COBIT Quick Start processes for a nominal fee. Feel free to check out the PSC at the link below, and please let us know what you think by sending email to info@k12technologyworks.com
